GOSHEN — Property owners in four Elkhart County townships are seeing higher tax assessments this year after the county got an updated look at land values.
The residential excess rate for Baugo, Benton, Cleveland and Concord townships was previously $6,900 an acre for the first two acres beyond what was covered by the $26,900 homestead rate, based on sales data that’s now 16 years old. That nearly doubled for some property owners.
The excess rate in Baugo was increased this year to $10,500 an acre for up to five acres; in Benton, to $14,500 for five acres; in Cleveland, to $12,500 for three acres; and in Concord, to $12,500 for five acres.
